For me it's repeating what i'm going to say in my head just so i don't mess it up, even in a one on one, this leads to me missing parts of a conversation. I also tend to drift off mentally. Just kinda spacing out.

I really enjoy watching your videos. Our journeys couldn’t be more different but somehow I can relate. Personally, i just had my first technical interview a week ago and did so terrible that I realized how true the term “if you don’t use it, you lose it” is hahaha. I used to do leetcode practice at least once a day, nothing too in depth but enough to keep my memory fresh and problem solving skills at a “not dreadful” level. But I never got interviewed. So I started focusing on applying more and better, and then bum… I BOMBED hahaha. It was a really interesting experience though, and kind of fun (I might be weird, I realize). I actually love studying leetcode and would rather do that all day than writing cover letters and endlessly searching for job opportunities. I realize there needs to be a balance between the two… kind of obvious, I know I know lol, but I need to be reminded of it because sometimes, between doing coding courses, working on side projects, going to networking events, in my case also learning french ( I live in Montreal), etc… you CAN get lost in what to prioritize, what is actually more important, is leetcode an actual necessary skill? Is working on projects or learning a new framework more important? Can I do it all sustainably? Should I prioritize one thing at a time??? It’s a difficult world for a junior these days. Anyways, sorry for the rant, I like your content 🙂

Anyone who thinks they are smart is acually dumb. But your concept of "smart" or "dumb" is wrong. Im by no means smart, but i can have a concept explained to me and fully understand it in like 40min before the exam!... But i cant improvize or think fast.... The whole "go with the flow" just doesnt work for me. My point is: everyone has there way of thinking. My strong side is learning, and yours is deducation! Both could be concidered "smart people traits" ive never met a person that understanda they aren't smart AND dont have at least one upside!

Leetcode ought to be in fact a sort of Duolingo-style "game." The entire system ought to include on its own spaced repetition, and many other things embedded by design in the platform, precisely to improve the learning progress and skills of the "players".

I love programming. As a creative medium, I'm obsessed with it. But the industry is so disgustingly demanding that you have to spend so much time in stuff you won't be using, not to mention the burning-out that you'll likely experience. I'm a generalist by nature and I like to study/do other things outside computer science. That's why I prefer working for smaller clients/employers and making less money so I can also satisfy my curiosity in other areas of knowledge. Thanks for the video man, very useful methodology. I've been studying algorithms with AlgoExpert lately.

I’m not smart. I’m not dedicated. I’m just a stupid kid who thinks they own the world. When I think about it I know. I know the truth deep down. But sometimes my default mind thinks I’m something. It’s never going to change, is it? What can I do if it’s going to be like this my whole life? Should I just press exit? The button is right there in the form of a silver bullet.

The way I cope with working remote is by practicing my small talk and being RELENTLESS (yes that needs caps to stress the point) in making connections with strangers whenever I see an opportunity. I wasn't always social, but you can learn it. That has helped me. I just sit at a cafe, I take a break, someone reads a book and I ask what book they're reading. Now I'm in a conversation. If that conversation vibes well, I will ask his/her number for a follow up. Stuff like that. Also, rejection and social awkwardness are part of the deal. I've gotten used to that. Fuck the fear, with all the love and hate in my heart: fuck social fear. With that mindset, working remote is way way way better. The only thing it really misses is colleagues that work with you on something and that quick back and forth. But loneliness? No, that's completely solvable. You gotta be a bit intense/extreme about it if you have my psychologically shy make-up but once you understand and are willing to pay the price, it's solvable. Face your fears or face depression (or just go back to the office). A life of comfort is not my life, I can't afford to have one.

Have 4 months of experience and a degree but can't even get an interview. The job market, at least in the UK is oversaturated with Juniors. 400 applications for just one Junior Position. It is better to study to be a Doctor or Engineer than a Computing Scientist right now. Too many people study CS, and there are just not enough jobs for all of them. At the same time the NHS, Police, Manufacturing industry, Schools, Engineering companies,...are crying for people. If I could give advice to other youngsters it would be to stop studying CS, as the Job Market is already oversaturated on entry level, at least in the UK.

Your portfolio is your CV if you want to make it big keep on working on personal projects build clone projects of websites or apps dive inside the code base and try to understand why it is important why is it working how you can add more features and try to read code bases of popular public repositories try debugging them and contribute inside it will do these all while finding a job if you get a call for an interview you can mention all of the stuff you are doing which will increase your chance of landing the job. The trick is to keep on writing code worst-case scenario you will end up building your own SaaS project helping hundreds of developers out there or you might become a tech mentor/speaker. peace out.

I'm from Europe and I completed a coding bootcamp in autumn of 2023. Only the participants who worked in tech before managed to find a job as programmer. Experience is everything right now it seems. There are many job postings for senior positions in my area, but very few for juniors. It is very difficult for new programmers who have no experience or connections. Im thinking about lying on my resume simply to get a foot in the door ...

It's May 2024, and I can confirm that what Created By KC mentioned eight months ago has indeed become reality. Landing jobs in the dev/tech industry, even for junior developer/engineer roles, has become exceptionally challenging. It's absurd, really. My speculation is that the companies willing to hire many of us simply don't have enough positions available to accommodate the vast number of applicants. There are only a limited number of these generous tech firms, but an overwhelming number of us seeking opportunities. It's a tough situation. My advice? Keep working hard, continuously improving your knowledge base and skills. That's all I can offer as guidance. Beyond that, I'd be deceiving you. KC is correct; the current job market is challenging. Personally, I've turned to freelancing (until securing a permanent position) as a solution. 😐 P.S - join online networking hubs/sites/forums etc , network with like minded talented yet fustrated and unemployed devs/engineers. Colab. And then maybe create your own startups? ( just an idea folks ).

These are good truths. We have similar years of experience and job types. The sweet spot I found is mature small companies that still innovate and produce a real world service that I'm into. Get much less of the startup stress but still get the freedom to own your work and try cool new tech. Mature enough for the software to have best practices in place.

Glad to see another upload. This channel is gold. Just realized that a couple days ago was my 1 year anniversary of getting a CS degree with no full-time job offer. Still trapped in the same dead-end internship that never promoted me because of the tech layoffs making relative dirt to the price of my degree. The application and interview processes have had me feeling overwhelmingly stuck. The realization I've had is that I hate tech. My passions are in Strongman and MMA, and my real dream is to become an athlete/content creator. Still applying to software jobs but now I'm starting to work towards my "exit plan" from tech.

When I was a jr Dev, I must be the luckiest Jr Dev. I never applied or looked for a job. I did a corp mobile code camp system but I found out that corp was shady. I gave up on software after that program. Since I don't have the years. So I did odds and end jobs, tech support, did retail, worked in part time factory work. Then I got phone call and asked if I want to join a small startup as a junior developer. I don't think most jr devs get recruited but I did. But that was back then when there isn't a lot of devs but a lot of demand. I feel bad for current devs leaving schools and code camps.
